Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about my-village.ie

What is my-village.ie?

What is my-village.ie?

my-village.ie is a community platform built for Irish villages, towns, and neighbourhoods. It connects local businesses, clubs, events, and residents in one place — organised around where you actually live.

Think of it as the digital version of the village noticeboard, the GAA pitch, and the local business directory — all in one.

Who is it for?
  • Residents who want to know what's happening locally
  • Local businesses who want to be found by their neighbours
  • Clubs and community groups who need a simple online presence
  • Event organisers who want real local attendance, not just likes
Is it only for rural villages?

No. The platform works for any community — village, town, suburb, or city neighbourhood. If people there share a sense of place, it belongs on my-village.ie.

Events

How do events work on my-village.ie?

Organisers create an event page with details, capacity, and ticket type. Villagers can mark themselves as Going or Interested. The event page shows live attendance, organiser updates, and local business supporters — all in one place.

Events are automatically shared to the Village Square when published, so the community sees them without the organiser having to post separately.

What is the 'minimum commitment' feature?

Organisers can set a minimum number of attendees needed for the event to go ahead. The event page shows a live progress bar so the community can see how close it is to being confirmed.

This prevents the situation where an organiser cancels because they didn't know enough people were interested. The community can see the need and respond.

Can local businesses support events?

Yes. Businesses with an active listing can appear as Lead Supporter, Supporting Business, or Community Backer on an event page — displayed as 'In association with local businesses', not as advertising.

This puts local businesses beside real community moments rather than beside algorithm-driven content.

Village Square

What is the Village Square?

The Village Square is the activity feed for your community — a place to share news, ask questions, post notices, and see what's happening locally. It's scoped to your village, so you only see what's relevant to where you live.

Is it moderated?

Yes. Posts can be reported by community members and reviewed by our team. We aim to keep the Square useful and respectful — a place you'd actually want to read.

No. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes. The platform is funded by subscriptions, not by data.
